What is a Wandering Star?

The term, Wandering Star, is Greek in origin (Αστρα Πλανητα), and is translated as Astra (“star”) Planeta (“wandering”). This term was used by the ancients to classify the seven celestial objects which didn’t maintain their relative positions to the other fixed stars that we see in the sky.

This included the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. In the Vedic culture, however, they acknowledged nine Navagraha, including Rahu (Uranus) and Ketu (Neptune). But I digress...

“Wandering Star” is also the title of one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands, Portishead. In the chorus, we hear the lyrics;

“Wandering Star, to whom is reserved, the blackness of darkness, forever”. Interestingly, this line is actually a passage from the Book of Jude 1:13 in the Bible.

A quote made famous by George Orwell was, “During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.” In this day and age of the Information War, I couldn’t agree more.

But before one can speak the truth, one must seek it. To those who seek the truth, we are the light because we aren’t afraid to face the darkness and speak truth to it. The darkness surrounds us all.

Be the light which guards against the dark. As Max Igan always says, “In Lak’ech”...
